So, Thursday night, we got our camping gear loaded into my parents trailer and all our suitcases and such loaded into our car. At 4 am Friday morning, Jacob got up to go put gas in the car and finish up some last minute things. A few minutes later, we got a text from my dad saying that they were feeling questionable and were going to delay departure a few hours. About 45 minutes after that, we got another text saying that 4 of them were sick and they were definitely not going.
We laid there and pondered our options and came up with these:
1. Go get our stuff, try to stuff it in the car and eventually end up taking the truck and going to Utah on our own (because there's no way everything would fit in the car). Rather pricey option. The truck uses lots more gas than the car.
2. Stay home
3. Use the fact that we're already packed and have gas money set aside to go somewhere else.
We picked option 3, repacked our bags with some shorts instead of coats and headed to Henderson to see Jacob's family.
Of course, they were very excited by the surprise and we had a fun weekend! We got there just in time to celebrate Jacob's Dad's birthday and to see Grandma Beckstead and two of his aunts who were there from Utah. We did some shopping, saw a movie, and the kids got ridiculously spoiled by their grandma and Aunt Amelia. They even had their first experience at Build-A-Bear.
Tuesday morning, Jacob and I were told that the kids were going on an adventure and then they left! Grandma and Amelia took them to Build-a-Bear and got them some stuffed animals that are pretty amazing representations of their personalities. Emily's is a bunny named Tink (go figure, right?) She has a Tinker Bell dress and sparkly shoes that Emily tries to steal from her. She also plays a fun song about magic that both the kids love dancing to.
Edward's is a bear, wearing a polo and slacks (My personal favorite outfit for Edward, he just looks so cute in polos!), and the best part, he makes the funniest laughing noise, which Edward likes to mimic. When asked what he wanted to name the bear, Edward just laughed, so the bear's name is Ha ha ha. Which is appropriate since that's what both the bear and Edward do constantly when they're together.
The kids are pretty attached to their new friends! It was fun to see family and get away for a few days, even if we did have to miss the campout. And, upon finding out that it snowed Monday morning in Utah, I was a little less sad about missing it.
