Big Girl Bed

For the past week we have been going through the joy of trying to get Emily to sleep in the toddler bed. So far she's made it through 2 whole nights (not in a row and last night being one of them!) and a few naps. Both nights she has woken up crying a few times. The first time I didn't go check on her and found her under the bed the next morning and last night Jacob went to check on her and she wandered out of her room. However, after a song or two she went back to bed without a fight. It's been interesting. She doesn't seem to have any real aversion to the toddler bed or affinity for the crib, she just hates going to bed in general. So when placed in the toddler bed, she promptly gets right back up and follows you out of the room. The only times she has stayed in there have the few days where she wants to go to bed. This is not a problem I know how to solve! How do I make her want to go to bed evey night, or at least understand that she has to anyway?

I just read a post on a friend's blog that was so similar! She is pregnant and her little one is having some major going to bed issues. I think it's normal when they are anticipating a big change. I wish I had helpful advice, but know that at least you aren't going through it alone. I will ask my sister about what they've done with my niece when she has had sleeping issues. :) Love you, girl! Miss you!

We had a problem with Kameryn for a while, but not about going to bed but getting up at 3 every morning and coming and waking us up and sleeping in our bed. What we had to end up doing is getting her a night light and a gate so she couldn't get out of her room until morning. She had to be able to fall back to sleep by herself. We would do our normal bed time routine and then let her cry. Eventually when they know they can't get out, they don't try anymore. Maybe that will help... Good luck!

GOOD LUCK! Obviously, I haven't done this yet, but I've seen friends try and it's rough. She'll get used to it soon :) We should talk sometime, just for fun. Call me 480-861-1986

Derik did the same thing. One night I counted how many times I put him back in his bed. . .I think it was 25. With Preston, he would just fall asleep in front of the door, because he couldn't open it, but Derik could, so it was much more frustrating. All I can say is keep trying, she'll eventually catch on, even if she doesn't do it willingly (Derik still fights me to go to bed most nights)
